Sirusho
Sirusho (full name Siranush Harutyunyan) was chosen to represent Armenia in the Eurovision Song Contest 2008, which was the 53rd edition of the Contest and was hosted in Belgrade, Serbia after Marija Šerifović won the 2007 Contest in Helsinki, Finland.
In order to find a suitable song a competition was organized for songwriters. The final song was picked out of 4 choices. The winning song was «Qele-Qele» composed by H.A. Der-Hovagimian. The song is a mixture of ethnic sounds and contemporary pop music. It starts like a ballad with a verse in Armenian language, building up to a un-tempo pop song with lyrics which are mostly in English.
The song entered the first semi-final on May 20 and advanced to the final which took place on May 24, 2008 in Belgrade. She finished 4th in the final with 199 points, she was awarded the maximum amount of 12 points the most times of all the contestants (8 times), with the winner, Russia's Dima Bilan receiving 12 points seven times.
After the contest Sirusho recorded a song about peace with the participants Boaz Maude from Israel (9th place at the Eurovision Song Cntest 2008) and Jelena Tomasevic from Serbia (6th place at Eurovision Song Contest 2008). The song was called «Time to pray» , written by Sirusho, Boaz Mauda, Jelena Tomašević based on words written by Israeli president and Nobel Peace Prize winner Shimon Peres, and composed by Boaz Mauda and Tomer Biran was performed for the first time on 8th March 2009, at Beovizija (Serbian music festival -- national selection for Eurovision Song Contest representative).
