Armenia made its first step towards the world’s most popular and most glorious event – Eurovision Song Contest in 2006. Armenian Pop singer Andre has been internally selected to represent Armenia at the Eurovision Song Contest in Athens, Greece.
In the year of 2006 Andre was to represent Armenia at the Eurovision Song Contest with the song “Without Your Love.” The song was written by the conductor of Armenian Jazz Orchestra Armen Martirosyan and interpreted a unique mixture of modern Western and traditional Armenian music. The instrumentation was done by Ara Torosyan and the song was accompanied by very unique details of choreography conducted by Yegor Drouzhinin – a famous Russian choreographer. The combination gave the desired result; a memorable and attractive show.
The hosts of the Show held in Athens, Greece were Greek singer Sakis Rouvas, who was the Greek representative at Eurovision 2004 and Greek-American actress Maria Menounos.
According to the votes represented at the end of the Final competition, Armenia ranked 8th place with 129 points. That year Armenia was regarded to receive highest 12 points from Russia and Belgium. The Finnish rock band Lordi won the contest with the song “Hard Rock Hallelujah” with 292 points. It was the first rock song to ever win the competition.
