Eva Rivas

In 2010, Armenian Public TV Company held a national selection of the candidate on February 14. The winner was a 22-year old Russian-Armenian singer Eva Rivas with the song “Apricot Stone” (lyrics by Moscow-based songwriter Karen Kavaleryan, music by Armen Martirosyan.)
After the national selection, Rivas starts her promo tours: her visits to various countries and planting apricot trees symbolically conveyed the message of leaving “pieces” of Armenia all over the Europe.  The list of her promo tour locations included countries as Greece, the Netherlands, Cyprus, Belgium, Russia, France, Romania, Bulgaria, Germany, Croatia, Israel and Georgia.
The host country of 55th annual Eurovision Song Contest was Oslo, Norway. As a result of the record-breaking victory of Alexander Rybak in 2009 by the song “Fairytale”, Norway has gained the right to host the contest for already the 3rd time in the history of Eurovision.
This year the number of participants was 39. On May 27, in the second Semi-Final of the Eurovision Song Contest 2010, Armenia placed 6th scoring 83 points. In the final, Eva Rivas performed following Russia and preceding Germany. The performance started with a face hidden, cloaked man, playing Armenian national instrument duduk. Soon a guitarist and a pianist (the composer- Armen Martirosyan himself) joined them on the stage. Rivas was wearing a white gown with a chiffon wrap floating about her and her wavy black hair was reaching below her waist. Then there was a giant apricot ‘stone’ on stage that blossomed as one of the dancers poured imaginary water from his vase. Dancers and the backup singers were fluttering on the stage while she was singing. Tigran Petrosyan, Gor Sujyan (a sole singer of rock-group “Dorians”) and Mariam Merabova provided the back vocal of the single. Armenia placed 7th in the final, scoring 141 points.
Earing 246 point in the final, Lena Mayer from Germany won the Eurovision Song Contest 2010, bringing the show to her homeland for the upcoming year.
Today Eva Rivas continues her path in the Armenian and Russian show-business. She was one of the judges of The Voice of Armenia (3rd season).
