Sirusho

SIRUSHO 2008

Sirusho represented Armenia in Eurovision Song Contest 2008 with the song “Qele, Qele, written by H. A. Ter-Hovagimyan and Sirusho. She received the most 12-points in the contest., scored 199 points and took the 4th place.

Sirusho was born in Yerevan  in 1987. She grew up in a family of artists. Her father is famous actor Hrachya Harutyunyan, and her mother is a popular singer Syuzan Margaryan. She began her music career singing live in Canada when she was 7 years old. At the age of 9 she received an Armenian Music Award for her song "Lusabats" (“Sunrise”).

She has toured in many countries and has spread the Armenian pop and folk music in Canada, USA, Syria, Iran, France, Belgium, Greece, Germany, Lebanon, Russia, Turkey, Georgia, Jordan, Egypt, etc.

She studied diplomacy in Yerevan State University, having majored in international relations.
Her first pop album was released when she was only 13 years old. Her second album “Sheram”, which comprised the songs of Gusan Sheram (Armenian folk musician), was recognized as the “Best Album of the Year” in Armenia in 2005. Her 3rd album conveyed her own music and lyrics in Armenian and English. This album also received the title of the “Best Album of the Year” at the annual Armenian National Music Awards in 2007. In addition, in 2005, 2006 and 2007 she has consecutively been awarded as “Best Female Artist” in Armenia, Russia and USA among the Armenian diaspora.

Telling about  Sirusho’s success, the BBC portrayed her as the "national treasure" of Armenia.
