Dorians

In the year of 2013, at the Eurovision Song Contest, Armenia was represented by a rock-band named “Dorians.” It is a group consisting of 5 members: lead vocals-Gor Sujyan, lead guitar-Gagik Khodavirdi, keyboards-Arman Pahlavanyan, bass-Edgar Sahakyan, and drums/percussion-Arman Jalalyan.
The band was chosen through internal selection with the song called “Lonely Planet.” The man standing behind the music of the song was the rock-metal icon and the living legend – Tony Iommi. Vardan Zadoyan wrote the lyrics to the song. He was also the lyricist for Eurovision of 2009 song performed by Inga and Anush Arshakyan.
The ESC 2013 concert was held in Malmo, Sweden with a total of 39 participating countries. “Dorians” went through the second Semi-Final with the 7th place. The band received 69 points, 12 of which came from France. Being qualified for the final, Armenia performed under number 12. To add more drama on the stage, the overall performance was spotted not through dances and too many movements on the stage, but was carried out with more suitable special effects for a rock-band. With the supporting smoke and lightning on the stage whole new atmosphere and effect were created.
During the Final Show, “Dorians” overall received 41 points thus settling on the 18th place  following Eythor Ingi, Iceland with a difference of 6 points, and preceding Bonnie Tyler, United Kingdom with a difference of 18 points. The winner of Eurovision 2013 Song Contest was the contestant from Denmark, Emmelie de Forest with her song “Only Teardrops” with a total of 281 points.
“Dorians” is a well-known band in Armenia; especially for its impressive start and for its more impressive continuation. The band has won a large variety of titles, including titles like the “Best Newcomer” at Tashir Music Awards in Moscow in 2009, and the “Best Rock Band of the Year” at National Music Awards of Armenia in the years of 2010 and 2011. “Dorians” also performed at Rock Aid Armenia, where they finally got to personally meet Tony Iommi – the legendary guitarist of Black Sabbath they have been favoring.
In their achievement list “Doirans” also mention the most important  for them – their selection as a representative of Armenia at the Eurovision 2013 Song Contest.
