Ralf Mackenbach : The Winner of JESC 2009 After the Contest
10.11.2011
- How did winning in Junior Eurovision change your life, both personal and professional?
-My professional life changed because I got (and still have) a lot of work after winning Junior Eurovision: TV programs, bookings, concerts I had my first album (now my second album) so, of course, my artist life became very busy. School is the most important thing for me, so we had to find a good balance to do both; my school and my artist life. Personal life is the same: I try to find free time for my friends, my sports and hobbies. When I go out, a lot of people recognize me and ask for a photo or an autograph. So, I can’t go out to the streets the way I did before.
-Do you follow JESC news? Have you listened to any of this year's entries and, if so, who are your favorites?
-Yes, of course! I always follow Eurovision, both the adults and the Juniors. I like Russia and Belgium and of course my own country! But they all are very strong this year, all children and the countries did a good job!
-What is the hardest part of JESC?
-Nothing!! For me it was a big fun!! Of course, you have to concentrate on the stage and how to perform on this new big stage, and do it in a relaxed way! Enjoying the company of other participants and other cultures is so nice!
-Would you like to participate in Eurovision or Junior Eurovision again?
-Yes, I am 16 years old now so I can’t participate in Junior anymore, but Eurovision, I would like to do it for sure, maybe together with my brother Rick. This year we had a crazy way of applying in Holland: you had to put your song in a mailbox and people either choose your letter or not.
I did not want to participate that way, so I didn’t want to be a candidate, because they had no other rules...
- What should the participant do to win the Contest?
-Relax, have fun and enjoy! When you have talent and you know your song and performance, it will be ok! It is such a beautiful time, so enjoy it!
- Can you describe what the JESC winner feels when announced?
-You feel so very happy and glad that you can’t believe it’s true!
-And finally, can you give a piece of advice to this year's participants?
-Dear participants, be proud to be there in Junior Eurovision!
Make friends all together, enjoy each other’s cultures and relax, enjoy the time to be there and, of course, show whole Europe and the world why you should win!
Toi Toi Toi and big hello from Holland. Good luck all !
